The Brown Bird Wrasse, Gomphosus varius, features a long snout with a black/brown color. It uses its snout to catch skinny prey and to break it up into bite-sized pieces. They should only be kept by experienced aquarists in tanks with plenty of live rock, a sandy substrate, and a tightly sealed lid to prevent escapes. The Brown Bird Wrasse cannot be held with aggressive fishes, small inverts, and if kept with other Bird Wrasses, females should be introduced first. They will feed on a omnivorous diet of algae based foods or frozen meaty foods twice daily.
