If the water is not rich in nutrient levels, then you can make use of iron supplements, which will help in the proper growth and survival of the Macro Algae. But, precautions are mandatory while handling iron supplements in water. The Shaving Brush grows in sandy substrates and possess rhizoidal ?root balls? or holdfast. It is hardy in nature and well known for its filtration capabilities. The Shaving Brush resembles a brush used for applying cream, thus it is named as shaving brush plant. It features elongated stalk and green grass like upward branches. The Shaving Brush incorporates a hard Calcium Carbonate skeleton within its living tissue. It is easy to maintain and do not need any special attention. The supplements of calcium and iron can be added to improve its overall health and growth. It helps in controlling excess nutrients in almost any marine or reef aquarium. It is advisable to keep the aquarium well illuminated for its proper growth, so that they have enough energy to prepare the food through photosynthesis. The Shaving Brush has many thin leaves and these give a feathered look to it. It is well-suited for refugium and modified sumps. Most herbivorous fish do not feed on this plant, but some sea urchins may uproot and consume these species.ReefPods are a tropicall species of benthic copepod. These copepods eat detritus, left over fishfood, fish waste, plant debris and microalgae. They will rapidly populate a marine environment-your tank. They are small which makes them suited for many juvenile and adult organisms and are generally not harmed by pumps or powerheads. Reef Safe, they will not harm your setup or corals and in fact make an excellent supplementary food source for them. They are a distinct population which has been cultured for many years to handle the conditions of a closed aquarium setting. There are approximately 100-200 per package along with macroalgae, some microalgae (phytoplankton) food and naturaltreated seawater (treated with ozone, carbon, uv).We recommend several options for using the ReefPods. They can be added directly to the tank. They can be added directly to a refugium. They can be placed in a container and fed out as desired. If there is a wrasse or mandarin living in your tank already do not be surprised if the copepod population does not take off. They love Reefpods! A ReefPod population that is flourishing will be evident by the moving specs on the sides of the tank either during the "day" or "night" cycle.PhycoPure? Reef Blend is a unique product. It contains 7 different types of microalgae as well as a dinoflagellate, zooxanthellae. It is grown in natural seawater that has been ozonated, charcoal filtered and uv treated. PhycoPure? Reef Blend offers a wide range of particle sizes and nutritional content that, individually, have been proven very effective in various aquaculture farms, and projects. Just like humans, animals require some level of variety in a food source. It is understandable that no single food provides 100% of the necessary nutrition required for good health. Hence the blend of phytoplankton in PhycoPure? Reef Blend Larger Image It is important to understand that not all microalgae possess the same nutritional properties. As an extreme it could be compared to the statement, ?I eat plants.? There are most certainly plants that are good for you and nutritious, whereas, there are plants that will kill you. The same applies to microalgae. The species selected for the blend have been used successfully for years in clam, oyster, abalone, shrimp, crab, copepod, rotifer (enrichments), geoduck, mussel, conch, sea slug, sea urchin, and finned fish green water mariculture. These species are true plankton and not the types that will colonize on the sides of your tank. As a matter of interest, a number of the species in PhycoPure? were isolated from reefs in Hawaii and Tahiti. The ratio of each species in PhycoPure? has been fine tuned and tested prior to being marketed. Testing continues on select systems and with new species, and as beneficial results are determined, the product will be updated, enhanced. One of our aims is for continual improvement based on research and your feedback. Most experts agree that the main purpose of phytoplankton is to feed the zooplankton that many reef organisms need as food, and to feed filterfeeders and herbivores. To date, feedback from hobbyists of all levels, has been provided stating that great results have been observed after feeding (response time varies depending on water quality and system) from the following; Acropora (better polyp extension), Euphyllia (robust appearance), deep water gorgornians (Diodogorgia-full polyp extensions and growth), chili corals, Nephthea, Scleronephthya, anemones, tube worms, Dendronephthya, mushrooms, leathers and sea pens. In our personal experience we have been having success with gorgonians, carnations, and have noted positive response to PhycoPure? from certain Montastrea and Tubastrea species. AlgaGen?s goal in producing PhycoPure? is to provide a high quality live, fresh, phytoplankton blend. Obviously nothing is more fresh than growing it one?s self but not everyone has the time to take this project on. We claim that the blend is live and have tested it for up to 6 months, after which, it will still bloom in our lab. Our concern is the following; we advertise a specific blend composition, PhycoPure?, this blend will change over time because of the fact that the algae is live, and some species in the blend are aggressive whereas, others are passive. The aggressors will out compete the passives and the blend profile will change. It is because of this that we do not inventory product, but produce it weekly and recommend that PhycoPure? is bought in amounts that will get used up within a 1-2 month time period or less (we provide a reference date for this purpose). This way we can feel comfortable that what you are buying is fresh and is what we advertise. Please remember to store PhycoPure? flat and keep it refrigerated. Agitate the product frequently. Of the many phytoplankton products on the market it is our hope that PhycoPure? will be your choice. We use product from each batch to feed our tanks.
