The Maiden's Hair is a green filamentous alga who appears similar to thin blades of grass or tufts of hair. It is also commonly referred as Maiden?s Hair Plant and Turtle Grass. The Maiden's Hair features bright green color that adds a splash of vivid green shade to your aquarium. It contains toxic substance which deters herbivores fish from eating it. The Maiden's Hair should be provided with a moderate to strong water current and lighting. It acts as a wonderful breeding ground for beneficial crustaceans like amphipods and copepods. The Maiden's Hair is very sensitive to high levels of nitrates and any detectable levels of copper so should be avoided in the tank. Since it is moderate to care for, the Maiden's Hair is suitable for more advanced beginners and intermediate marine aquarium keepers. Since it is doesn?t bother corals present in the tank, it is considered a reef safe species. It thrives well in a temperature range of 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit and pH of 8.1-8.4. The presence of the Maiden's Hair plant serves a home for emerald crabs, and since it is not moveable, it anchors itself and stays there itself.
