The Lavender Tang is commonly known as the Spot-Cheeked Surgeonfish, is colored in tones of lavender and tan, and features orange spots on the face and a forked tail. It requires a tank of 55 gallons and is necessary to provide plenty of swimming room in the tank. The Lavender Tang needs a well decorated aquarium with plenty of hiding spots, e.g. caves and crevices to give an opportunity to carry out its natural browsing behavior in captivity. The Lavender Tang is considered aggressive towards other tangs and surgeonfish, but peaceful with other fish. It chiefly feeds on meaty foods, and is important to feed them with plenty of marine based seaweed and algae. Feeding thrice a week is recommended for the Lavender Tang?s continued good health. Having lots of rocks would encourage the growth of algae that allows it to forage in between the meals. The Lavender Tang thrives well in a temperature range of 72-78 degrees fahrenhiet and pH of 8.1-8.4. It should be kept in a tank not less than 55 gallons, because it is aggressive and territorial as well, and needs its own place to establish its territory. It is not advisable to keep The Lavender Tang in the same tank with other Acanthurus tangs such as the Powder Blue Tang, Powder Brown Tang, etc. Apart from all these factors, if provided with stable water parameters, highly oxygenated water, high flow and a proper diet, the Lavender Tang will make sure to stay healthy for a long time in your tank. Since the Lavender Tang is a peaceful fish and does not bother any inhabitants, it is considered a reef safe species.
