The purple firefish goby features beautiful purple and red coloration with a shorter dorsal fin, unlike its relative fishes. It is also known as Midwater goby, and is territorial in nature if are kept in close quarters and shows aggression amongst themselves. The Nemateleotris decora is very good in jumping and thus keeping it under a covered aquarium is recommended. It has an elongated first dorsal spine that ??jumps?? up and down, and is suggested to keep with enough rockwork. The purple goby fish loves to hang in and therefore we advise you to keep a few live rocks, crevices and overhangs to set a realistic feeling to the fish. The Firefish Goby is a very timid and hence needs a lot of hiding places to conceal itself because once if it gets scared then it will be reluctant to come out of its hiding spot. The Firefish Goby is also known as Purple Firefish, Flame Firefish, or Purple Dartfish. It is easy to care and is resistant to diseases thus making it a very good choice for beginner aquarists. The purple firefish goby can become aggressive towards other fire fishes unless introduced to a tank simultaneously. It mostly inhabits base of corals, over sandy areas and coral rubble patches, therefore keeping thick sand bed, live rocks and other corals makes a realistic environment for the purple firefish goby. Its vibrant color might fade away if not fed with vitamin enriched diet such as brine shrimp, and Mysis shrimp. The purple firefish goby should not be kept with frogfish or anglers. The appropriate temperature of the aquarium should be in range of 72-78 Fahrenheit; pH between 8.1-8.4 and hardness with 8-12. The purple firefish goby has not yet shown any successful breeding in captivity.
