The Blueheaded Fairy Wrasse is considered one of the most beautiful marine fish, which is known to have stunning vibrant colored body along with striking pattern. It is a peaceful fish with interesting behavior, which makes it a great resident for the fish-only community or reef tank. The Bluehead Fairy Wrasse is also known as the Ruby Head Fairy Wrasse, Yellow Flanked Fairy Wrasse, Purplehead Parrotfish, or the Blue Sided Fairy Wrasse. Male Cirrhilabrus wrasses are always larger than females and are usually more brightly colored. The Blueheaded Fairy Wrasse born as females, and only develop as males if there is a shortage of males. It has a unique feature of secreting mucous cocoons to sleep on, which prevents the fish from being caught for its scent by the nocturnal predators. Since the Blueheaded Fairy Wrasse might jump when startled, it should be kept in a closed tank to avoid any unnecessary accidents. The aquarium should contain many hiding spots and caves, because the Blueheaded Fairy Wrasse does not come out until the lights are turned on. Since it does no pose any threats to any corals or sessile invertebrates, it is considered a reef safe species. You should avoid housing the Blueheaded Fairy Wrasse with smaller hogfishes, Bodianus species and the candy hogfish B. bimaculatus. The Blueheaded Fairy Wrasse loves to spend its time cruising rapidly around the aquarium, generally high in the water column. It thrives well in a temperature range of 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit, pH of 8.1-8.4.
