Peaceful personalities and exemplary hardiness best describe the Bicolor Chromis. These refer to a schooling fish species that are quite popular amongst the novices to the advanced hobbyists. Bicolor Chromis are social fishes that must be stored in groups of minimum five individuals for offering constant activity, and ample of security. Scientifically known as Chromis Margaritifer, the Bicolor Chromis are considered very peaceful with other conspecifics and tank mates, however, these can turn territorial towards other damsel species or chromis. Bicolor Chromis can also be kept with a large range of heterospecific tank mates, not overly aggressive bullies or species. Bicolor Chromis are chiefly black in shade that changes in white color towards the back edges of the dorsal, anal fins and also caudal fins. Bicolor Chromis are generally confused with the relatives, Chromis iomelas or Half-and-half Chromis that are just about similar in shade, the exemption of being 50% white and 50% black, varying at the mid-section between caudal fin and mouth. Though Bicolor Chromis are very famous, these species are not as easily available, when compared to their other common relatives. Bicolor Chromis must be kept in a tank of 30 gallons or additional space with plenty of swimming space, right from the middle to the upper level. This tank also comprises of crushed coral substrate, sand as well as lots of live rock for refuge. As Bicolor Chromis are diurnal species, these species will cover within crevices and caves in the night. This species will come out for swimming, searching for foods or planktonic during the daytime. These are omnivorous species that keep at the surface, searching for planktonic snacks, inside their natural ambience. Bicolor Chromis are fed with a large range of frozen, live, mysis shrimp, vitamin brine shrimp, copepods, blood worms, and prepared seafood. They accept high quality flake foods and pellets once or twice a day.
