The Volitan Lionfish is a beautiful solitary specimen, which features vertical stripes along its body that vary in color from red, burgundy, white and black. It has large flowing pectoral fins, with which it loves to spend time out in the open at dusk and dawn, but generally will hide in caves in daylight. Therefore, we advise you to keep plenty of rockwork and caves as hiding spots for the Volitan Lionfish. We also advise you to handle it with caution, since its pectoral spine is venomous in nature. If provided with all the necessary requirements, the Volitan Lionfish adapts really well and fast in captivity. The aquarium should be well- equipped with subdued lighting as the Volitan Lionfish tends to become more active during the night than day. It is also commonly referred to as lionfish, red firefish, turkeyfish, and butterfly cod. The Volitan Lionfish can grow up to the size of 15 inches and then should be kept in a tank not less than 50 gallons. It may eat smaller fish, shrimp, and other crustaceans in the tank. Its diet basically should include meaty foods such as live shrimp, live fish, and occasionally crustacean flesh. The Volitan Lionfish thrives well in a temperature range of 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit, and pH of 8.1-8.4. We advise not to add smaller fishes, which might become snacks for the Volitan Lionfish. As long as the other fish won?t fit in there mouth the Volitan Lionfish should be fairly safe.

The family of Lionfish is a group of fish that are world renowned for their beauty and ability to inflict pain. These fish have large flowing dorsal and pectoral fins that are occassionly webbed at the base. The poison these fish can inflict is shot out through their venomous spines from the glands in the long grooves of their fins. Lionfish like an area where they can hang out like a crevice or cave. These fish are nocturnal and prefer to hunt during nightime.Venomous: By purchasing this item you are aware that it is poisonous and deadly and you agree that by purchasing this item Saltwaterfish.com is not responsible for any injury or death that may occur
