The Two Tone Wrasse is commonly refered to as Halichoeres Pictus. It is also known as the rainbow wrasse that belongs to a category of fish known as Perciformes. Halichoeres Pictus are usually radiantly colored and the interesting thing is that many species subject to sex changes throughout life. The Two Tone Wrasse starts its life as a female and later on develop to the male sex. It features different colors that ranges from hypnotic indigo to sunset golden yellow, the rarely-seen rainbow wrasse is ready to take your reef aquarium to the next level. The Two Tone Wrasse is a hardy, well adjusted, disease-resistant species that makes it a good choice for a beginner aquarist. When resting at night, it might enter reefs or cover up themselves in sand present in the tank. It is best to keep the Two Tone Wrasse in a 30-gallon or larger aquarium with a sealed lid, there should be a 2-3 inch sandy bottom to hide themselves in case they feel frightened, thus we recommend you to add a thick layer of sand bed. It is carnivores and eats fire worms and pyramidellid snails, protecting corals and clams. The Two Tone Wrasse is safe with stony and soft corals but may depend on feather dusters, tubeworms, small shrimp, and flatworms. It can also eat parasites off of tank mates in young age. We advise you to maintain the Two Tone Wrasse diet with vitamin-enriched frozen brine shrimp, vitamin enriched frozen mysis shrimp, and other mealy foods with a top grain marine flake and marine pellet food.
The juvenile color phase is white or yellow with two yellowish brown stripes, one along back next to base of dorsal fin and one on upper side which extends through eye to end of nose. Adult males are blue-green to yellowish green on the upper half of body and pale blue on its lower half, blue stripes on head, a large black spot at the tail base.This fish is a protogynous hermaphrodite, the female will change her sex to a male if the something happens to the male.Provide rockwork and a good amount of swimming space for this active wrasse.This wrasse predominantly eats invertebrates in its natural habitat, so provide a meaty diet of chopped shrimp, and clam. Offer enriched brine shrimp, and mysid shrimp.This little wrasse will grow to 5.11 inches in length.
