The Tennent Tang is commonly referred to as the Doublebanded Surgeonfish, Leutenant Surgeonfish, or Vampire Surgeonfish. With its beautiful grey body and white margined tail, it makes a gorgeous addition to any tank. The Tennent Tang is suitable for reef and community aquariums. This is one of the tangs that undergo a change in coloration from juvenile to adult stages. The Tennent Tang is relatively peaceful and tolerates other types of tangs. It is a voracious filamentous ?hair? algae eater that is why we recommend you to provide them plenty of live rocks that encourages the growth of algae, so that the Tennent Tang can graze over it in between the meals. It needs a large swimming place, a good environment and high nutritional needs. The Tennent Tang is moderately easy to care, which makes it a good choice for beginner aquarist. It likes lots of water turbulence rather than placid aquarium. The Tennent Tang does not bother any sessile invertebrates and makes safe candidate for a reef tank. It grows up to 9 inches and requires a tank of at least 50 gallon. The Tennent Tang thrives well in a temperature range of 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit and pH of 8.1-8.4. It is herbivores and chiefly feeds on benthic algae, detritus, and diatoms, frozen brine and mysid shrimp, and flake foods. The Tennent Tang should be fed at least three times a day for its continued good health.
Lieutenant Tang!
Tang came in great condition at about 4" in length. Started eating immediately and regularly grazes along the rocks. Mine feeds on on a combination of shrimp and seaweed. Looking forward to those long streamers. This tang is a total pacifist. Very active and docile.

The Surgeonfish family consists of fish which are colorful, thin-bodied, and usually have an oval shape. These fish have long continuous dorsal and anal fins and crescent tail fins. The scalpel at the base of their tailfin is very sharp and is used by the fish for protection from predators as well as a way of establishing itself with other fish. These fish are usually seen at reefs eating algae all day long.
