The Scissortail Goby is also commonly known as the scissortail dartfish, which has a white head and blue body with large dorsal and anal fins. It is a very good jumper and should always be kept in a closed lid tank to avoid any unnecessary accidents. The Scissortail Goby needs plenty of loose coral rubble to give them a realistic feel. It needs lot of sand and ample space for its survival, so that it can burrow and swim freely, without any inhibition. The Scissortail Goby rarely become aggressive towards other fishes, but it is territorial and tends to fight with its own kind. It can be fed chopped or shaved seafood, brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp. The Scissortail Goby loves to hang around and therefore we advise you to keep a few live rocks, crevices and overhangs to set a realistic feeling to the fish. Being a passive fish, it needs many hiding places in the tank. It is easy to care for and is resistant to diseases thus making it a very good choice for beginner aquarists. The Scissortail Goby should not be kept with anglers or boxfish. The appropriate temperature of the aquarium should be in range of 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit; pH between 8.1-8.4 and hardness with 8-12, in which the Scissortail Goby thrives to the maximum. The Scissortail Goby has not yet shown any successful breeding in captivity yet. It makes a very good reef tank inhabitant and does not bother any corals present in the tank.
Gobies compose one of the largest family of fish in the ocean. These small fish live around reefs or on sandy flats. Many of the Gobies are known for their burrowing behavior. These fish use burrows in the sand for safety. Some of the Goby species are known to share their burrows with Pistol Shrimp; behavior that can be duplicated in the home aquarium. Most Gobies have cupped ventral fins that nearly join just below their gill plates that serve as perching mechanisms so the Goby can always be on the lookout in a resting position. The Goby is a tremendous addition to the home aquarium.Photo by Saltwaterfish.com member, happyhourh: Zack Brown.
