The Powder Brown Tang is known as Powder brown surgeonfish, Powder black surgeon, Japan surgeonfish, White-nose surgeonfish, and White-faced surgeonfish. With its beautiful coloration and pattern, the Powder Brown Tang makes a beautiful choice for any aquarium. It is not recommended to keep the Powder Brown Tang in tank smaller than 55 Gallons, as it needs ample space and rock work to swim and move freely. Since it loves to graze, we suggest you to keep a few live rocks which can provide algae growth and to create crevices where it can inhabit. It is a peaceful fish which should not be kept with other Tangs or Surgeonfish who will most likely to attack the Powder Brown Tang fishes. It is advisable to keep the Powder Brown Tang singly unless you have a cleverly decorated aquarium where it can hide. It is considered as reef safe and will not bother the corals present, but it is also advisable to keep the corals glued down because this Powder Brown Tang may accidently dislodge them while swimming. The Powder Brown Tang thrives well in a temperature range of 72-78 degree Fahrenheit, and the pH value of 8.2. It is sensitive while acclimatizing in the aquarium and once it adapts, it becomes quite a sturdy aquarium inhabitant. It is quite hard to breed the Powder Brown Tang in captivity. The Powder Brown Tang features a single spine on each side of the caudal peduncle, which is called as scalpel. Be careful while handling this fish, since the presence of this scalpel can inflict painful wounds. The Powder Brown Tang is mainly herbivore that feeds on algae. However, it also feeds on the tiny animals present among the algae; therefore it can be given occasional servings of meaty foods in the aquarium for its continued growth and health.
The Powder Brown, a.k.a White Faced Tang, is a very beautiful fish that is mostly chocolate brown with a white face and a bright yellow border running along the base of its dorsal and anal fins. The anal and dorsal fins are black with the dorsal having an orange stripe and the tailfin being white. The Powder Brown prefers lots of swimming room and will do well in either a community or reef tank. Keep only one per tank. They are voracious algae eaters.The Surgeonfish family consists of fish which are colorful, thin-bodied, and usually have an oval shape. These fish have long continuous dorsal and anal fins and crescent tailfins. The scalpel at the base of their tailfin is very sharp and is used by the fish for protection from predators as well as a way of establishing itself with other fish.
