The Dusky Wrasse is passive in nature and sensitive in stamina. It reaches a maximum size of about 6.5 inches in length and requires a tank of 55 gallons. The Dusky Wrasse thrives well in a temperature range of 75-79 degrees Fahrenheit and pH of 8.1-8.3. It also requires a thick sand bed, since it loves to dig into it. The Dusky Wrasse is more active during the daytime and less at night time. Since there is no distinctive feature to differentiate male from female, it is hard to breed it in captivity. The Dusky Wrasse is known to jump out of the aquarium and needs to be kept in a well-closed lid with no large open holes. It is absolutely safe to keep in a reef tank as it doesn?t bother any corals present in the tank. The Dusky Wrasse has a different appearance as it changes from juvenile to adult. Juveniles are black with a white tail and white lines and dashes and one to three black eye spots on the fins, depending on the age. Sub adults and females are reddish with thin broken horizontal stripes while males are green with red broken horizontal stripes. Large aquarium with plenty of space to swim is best for this fish. Tank mates should be around the same size, aggression and activity level; but avoid very small or docile tank mates. The Dusky Wrasse should be fed with a varied diet of meaty foods, and frozen foods, and will also graze on microinverts in the aquarium.

Requires a meaty diet, including finely chopped fish or shrimp flesh, fortified brine shrimp, mysis, black worms and other meaty type frozen foods with two or three feedings per day.The Wrasse family of fish is a large group of usually very colorful free swimmingfish. These fish are powerful swimmers using their pectoral fins to propel themthrough the water. Wrasses usually have powerful jaws that enable them to crushtheir food, which includes worms. These fish usually have long continuous dorsalfins and are found in groups in the wild. The Wrasses are one of the few fish thatwill bury themselves in the sand when sleeping or during flight. Wrasses are alsoable to change their sex during these phase changes.
